Several Dorset PGA Professionals have been celebrating the outstanding winning performance by Georgia Hall after her amazing comeback in the final round to win the British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
They were among the coaches who helped the unassuming 22-year-old super star along the way after she took up the sport at the age of seven.
David Cooper, a Class AA Advanced professional and Dorset county academy head coach, is now general manager at Remedy Oak, one of the four Dorset clubs where Hall has been a member.
He helped develop Hall as a junior player for two years at Canford Magna Golf Club. Cooper said: “She was at the academy when she won two golds in the youth Olympics in Australia six years ago. It was nice to work with her as she was so dedicated.”
Paul Jones, this year’s PGA in England and Wales (South West) captain, also coached Hall for short time at Canford. He added: “Georgia spent four years in the Canford kids programme and even helped us coaching the younger kids.
“She loved to come back to see us as Canford was a part of her life. She thrilled the kids when she showed them the medals she won at the Olympics and then the British Amateur trophy.
“We were riveted to the television to see her win at Lytham. She was always a gritty, steely character. Nothing fazes her and she showed her determination on the course. There is no limit to what she can achieve.”
